I e-mailed you a few times last fall and, based on your advice, switched practitioners. Wouldn't you know it, he attended the successful vbac birth of my son this May!

Sorry for the delay, but I truly wanted to thank you for your sound advice on changing care providers. Had I stayed with the same dr, I would have ended up (I'm certain) with another c-section after 14 hours of slow labor.

Instead, I ended up with a gorgeous vbac after 32 hours of slow labor (the first 24 hours totally unmedicated!!! after that, a "walking" epidural took the edge off) with a dr. that understands patience and faith in women's bodies.

I can't thank you enough!

As a first time mom, I was shocked to learn how high the c-section rate had risen across the U.S. and Virginia. I was determined to find out how I could avoid an unecessary c-section, and was so glad when I found ICAN of Northern Virginia and its leader, Lori Cooper. All of the ICAN members were an indespensable source of information for me. If it wasn't for those wonderful women, I wouldn't have had the courage to make the changes in care that I needed in order to have the birth that I wanted. I ended up giving birth naturally to a beautiful son - thank you so much for being there and answering all of my questions.

I can honestly say that ICAN has helped me more then I could have hoped for through their support and education. I don‘t think I would have had a successful VBA2C if our chapter hadn‘t been there to talk to, ask questions, go over options and talk things through. They (you all) helped me go through my old feelings from my past two csections, discover my fears for this birth, and work towards success by knowing I had choices in my birth and that I could be an active participant and decide my own birth experience and how I wanted it to be. We don‘t always get what we want but you helped give me the voice to question why and give me support to help me feel comfortable doing the questioning.

I just know I‘m glad you all helped me with my journey. You taught me alot about my rights as a patient.
